This project was made with a lot of care, and in all it took 18 months to finish, mainly because I wanted everything to be just right and also because my mum had some trouble with remembering details. I have to say, I was quite amazed by how lovely the book ended up looking. The pages are thick and strong, and it has a hard cover which feels really good.

I'm super close with my grandma and talk with her all the time. This book made it possble for her to tell the story in her own words instead of me writing it down. I'm having a hard time trying to look at my book before it’s done. I put in some pictures but they won’t load. Maybe it’s becuase the questions are still in draft mode.

I recived My Life As A Book as a gift.

It felt like a very nice suprise. I started to write about my early years. I used my own words and remembered little things, like smells and sounds. It made me smile but also made me tear up. Sometimes it was hard to figure out how to use the site the way I wanted, but the team always helped, even if I had to wait a bit. I like how my book turned out and now I’m getting one for each of our four kids. I wish my mum and dad had done something like this, but they’re gone now. Don’t wait too long.

Stories don’t save

Very frustrating platform. No information upfront regarding how to use. The worst part is when you spend time writing a story and it doesn’t save. You can only use their chat for help and they don’t address your issue. I would not recommend.

We got this for my parents

We got this for my parents for Christmas in 2023 and really like the concept. What I didn’t completly realize at first is that you are signing up for a 1-year program, and if you need extra time, you have to extend it for $59 per book. That feels like a lot after paying the first fees and pre-buying 2 more books for both of them. It would be great if there was a monthly or quarterly plan. I do like that they gave us a 3-month extension, but since my parents are older and had some tech troubles, they didn’t get very far and needed more time. They struggled to get into the program, and when I checked, they had put answers in each other’s books. I also had to ask for my paid credits to be extended. I get that this is partly on us, but since it’s made for older folks, I just wanted to share our experiance.

Even though I used a different style for my memories than what was suggested, the adaptability of the platform made it work. I decided to organize my memories into chapters about my life. I titled the chapters like "The Early Years" and then used the prompts to help write the story. Since you can add prompts, I also used them for more pictures. The prompts were useful and reminded me of moments I had forgotten. One downside was the lack of standard word processing tools like bold, italics, etc., but I know they are on the way. You can make your own table of contents, but getting the page numbers to line up is tricky. Overall, it's been a nice experience and one I would suggest to everyone. When (and if) you get My Life in a Book, take a moment to think about who you're writing for and how you'll structure it. I was making it for my grandkids. The flexibility gives you many options to personalize the result and is limited only by your imagaination.
