This was my main choice for app-based language learning some time ago, and it was way better than Duolingo for the reason you mentioned: it provides explanations. However, one thing I found lacking was the variety of activities. It mainly focused on listening and reading tasks, and if I remember right, there weren’t any writing or other input options, which made practicing output quite limited. Nevertheless, as a piece of a larger study plan, it works well (at least, it did when I used it a few years ago; I’m not sure if they’ve made any changes since then).
