Overall, I had a mostly good experience with Joyous, BUT I credit my results to both the medication and my own effort in doing the mental work to get better. This isn’t a program where you just take medication and get “fixed.” The medicine is just a tool to support your own healing process. For me, that meant a lot of self-thinking, journaling, art, and movement therapy along with the medication. I was able to work through a lot of old trauma and get past some big obstacles I’d faced all my life. After I saw progress, though, I felt stuck and the effects on my major depression outside of trauma didn’t last long. From what I read about Ketamine therapy, this seems normal. It’s not usually a permanent cure. The Joyous staff mostly just do your appointments and give the prescriptions. There’s no real therapy, and it’s very hands-off, so you need to be self-driven and disciplined to succeed. The patient portal has resources and a community forum, but again, it’s mostly self-led.

Now, I'm in the process of slowly coming off it, which is a bit nerve-wracking. It's a mix of relief and anxiety, to be honest. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but I’m hopeful things will balance out soon.
